iPhone 24×7

Macworld Live Coverage [Update]

by Matt Pippen on January 15th, 2008

9:55CT: Apple Store is down.
10:57CT: Three minute warning!
11:14CT: Keynote started, and Steve’s on stage. A little behind schedule.
11:16CT: We begin by talking about Leopard.
11:19CT: New product: Time Capsule - A full blown Airport Extreme with Hard Drive built-in (internal).
11:21CT: iPhone up next. 4 million in sales.
11:24CT: 1.1.3 to be released. All features leaked seem to be included. (iPhone 24×7 will be advising later today on the choice to update.)
11:35CT: iPod Touch - 5 new apps. Cost $20, not cool! Come on Apple!
11:37CT: iTunes movie rentals announced. Every major studio on board.
11:41CT: Library Titles: $2.99 and New Releases: $3.99
11:44CT: Apple TV Take 2
12:00CT: New Apple TV is simply free software update, will be out in 2 weeks. Price has also dropped from $299 to $229.
12:03CT: Fox will be making DVDs with iTunes compatible digital copies. I really like this move.
12:08CT: MacBook Air is introduced!
12:17CT: 13.3″ screen with magnetic latch. Just 3lbs!! 1.8″ HD - 80GB or 64GB SSD option. 1.6GHz or 1.8GHz option for Intel C2D (Core 2 Duo). Intel apparently specially shrunk the C2D for this notebook.
12:21CT: “The processor is as think as a nickle and as wide as a dime.”
12:23CT: 2GB Ram standard, MagSafe adapter, 1 USB 2.0 port, Micro-DVI, Audio Out, 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1/EDR, no optical drive (accessory is available for $99 and comes with software to “borrow” a Mac or PC’s optical drive), and 5 hours of battery life.
12:24CT: Pre-orders today for $1799, will ship in two weeks.
12:29CT: Apple made it super environmentally friendly, as a bonus. Fully aluminum case, first fully Mercury and Lead free display, BFR free circuit boards, and 56% less volume in retail packaging then Macbook.
12:31CT: Well…, Randy Newman is performing.
12:41CT: Apple Store and site are up and reflect today’s announcements.
12:44CT: Steve has wrapped up today’s Keynote. My only question is: What happened to updates for the MacBook Pro?

Update: iPhone 24×7’s recommendation to iPhone users on upgrading to firmware version 1.13 is to upgrade only if one or more of the features trumps the ability to use third party apps. For those using the iPod Touch, do not bother paying $20. Simply go out and jailbreak your iPod Touch. You’ll get even more for free.

Expect my complete thoughts and reaction on Macworld later tonight.

This was such a disappointing keynote for me and a lot of my friends. While the MacBook Air is beautiful and the new iPhone update is simply great, we were really looking forward to a new iPhone, altogether. Or, more specifically, colored iPhones. Even more specifically, pink iPhones.

It wasn’t so disappointing to me. I mean, all I’d been looking forward to was the MacBook Air. The iPhone is still pretty useful, and I do enjoy my personal pink.
