iPhone: Time’s 2007 Invention of the Year
In the November 12 issue of Time, Lev Grossman lists the top give reasons why the iPhone is still the best thing invented this past year. Even though this story may be a bit old, I think it’s an important one for iPhone 24×7 to cover because it states some of the crucial changes that makes the iPhone lovable.
Below you fill find each of Lev Grossman’s points in the article and my commentary.
1. The iPhone is pretty. One of the great things Apple does is consider design just is important as the function and technology behind the product. Mr. Grossman hit it right on the spot with this point. All the little intricate details behind the look and UI of the phone is what makes the iPhone such a user-friendly device.
2. It’s touchy-feely. Mr. Grossman did it again. Apple innovates. Apple took the touchscreen and turned it into a interface that makes it easy for anyone to just pick up and use. Maybe will even hear of a MacTouch at the 2008 MacWorld Expo?
3. It will make other phones better. This is possibly one of the greatest benefits of the iPhone. Even those who will never buy an iPhone will benefit from it being on the market because Apple demanded new freedoms from the service provider. Expect better phones as time goes on.
4. It’s not a phone, it’s a platform. This is what makes the iPhone the device it is. I am not running on a $.02 firmware designed by some random Taiwan company. I am running the full operating system of OSX designed to fit on the iPhone. It’s a full out handheld computer.
5. It is but the ghost of iPhones to come. The best part about technology is it grows exponentially. In 5 years just imagine what the iPhone will look like. You thought it looked beautiful in it’s present form.
All in all, Lev Grossman really summed up the iPhone. Do you think it deserved to be Time’s 2007 Invention of the Year?
